Vulvar cancer is a malignant tumor that occurs in the tissue of the vulva, the external female genital area. It is a rare form of cancer that often affects older women. Typical symptoms may include itching, burning, pain, changes in skin color or texture, as well as skin ulcers or lumps in the vulva. The exact cause is not fully understood, but factors such as smoking, chronic vulvar diseases, and HPV infections can increase the risk.
Diagnosis is usually made through a biopsy, followed by imaging tests to assess the tumor’s status. Treatment often involves a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and/or chemotherapy, depending on the stage of cancer and other individual factors. Early detection and treatment are important for improving the prognosis of vulvar cancer.
