Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of it. This abnormal tissue can spread to the ovaries, fallopian tubes, pelvic lining, or other organs in the pelvic area.

Endometriosis often causes severe menstrual pain, pain during intercourse, lower back pain, or pain during bowel movements or urination. It can also lead to infertility. The exact cause of endometriosis is not fully understood, but factors such as genetic predisposition, hormonal imbalances, and immune system disorders may play a role.

Treatment may include pain-relieving medications, hormone therapy, or surgical procedures to remove the affected tissue. The treatment approach depends on the severity of symptoms, the patient’s age, and her fertility goals.
