Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure in gynecology used to examine the interior of the uterus, known as the endometrium. A hysteroscope, a thin, lighted instrument with a camera, is inserted through the vagina and cervix, allowing direct visualization of the uterine cavity. This enables the physician to identify abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions, or other pathologies.
Hysteroscopy can also be used therapeutically for minor tissue removal, biopsies, or surgical procedures such as polyp removal. The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis, involves minimal risks, and allows for a quick recovery.
